NPI Manufacturing Engineer

The NPI Manufacturing Engineer will lead the manufacturing core team efforts to plan and execute on all New Product Introduction (NPI) programs. The position requires strong program management skills and experience with high volume manufacturing.

Position


  • As a member of the Manufacturing team, functions as the lead Manufacturing Engineer responsible for introduction of new products and processes
  • Establishes standards for high volume Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and leads the definition of manufacturing process requirements for major programs, including: quality, supply chain design, assembly and process documentation, product manufacturability and testability, manufacturing cost reduction, and cycle-time reduction
  • Engages with the engineering department and the contract manufacturing facility from design and prototype development through product launch to ensure schedule, cost and quality objectives are met
  • Determines new product manufacturing resource requirements, manufacturing development plans, and introduction schedule
  • Develops, implements, and manages detailed new product introduction schedules, plans and budgets
  • Works closely with engineering, finance, product management, and operations to define, track and ensure completion of NPI project objectives
  • Generates documentation and product change information for NPI and sustaining efforts
  • Manages the stabilization of NPI transitions: evaluates in-process quality data and drives corrective action as required to maximize product manufacturability and to mitigate business risks
  • Develops action plans to characterize and mitigate high risks due to new assembly techniques, technologies, and materials
  • Works with Quality Engineering on validating first article compliance to spec document issues and works with vendors toward resolution
  • Domestic and international travel for factory audits and approvals

 

Experience


  • Manufacturing, or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent degree/work experience
  • Minimum five years experience in a high-volume, portable consumer electronics product engineering/manufacturing environment
  • A track record of high volume, portable consumer electronics DFM and cost-efficient design solutions
  • Experience of high-density electronic packaging solutions and high-volume manufacturing processes
  • A clear understanding of the Product Development Lifecycle 
  • The capability to address multi-cultural and cross-cultural environments 
  • Experience of build yield analysis; manufacturing KPIs and a knowledge of process equipment 
  • Strong knowledge of high volume manufacturing processes; assembly through test
  • Excellent organizational, written and verbal English communication skills
  • Knowledge of RoHS/WEEE
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001:2000 quality systems and Lean Technology
  • Working knowledge of FMEA
  • Software requirements: Word, Excel, Access, Visio
  • Familiar with: SolidWorks or similar CAD programs, Layout and Schematic capture programs, particularly Protel, Orcad and Allegro
