Linux/ Solaris System Administrator

Position
Senior Support Engineer is responsible for technical solutions delivery and customer acceptance of projects. In this role, you will be an important member of the Operations team and a key technical team member responsible for high quality customer support.
- Perform deployment and installation of servers
- Hardware, OS and 3rd party software packages
- Provide systems administration, operational support and problem resolution for deployed servers
- Develops, promotes and implements standard operating procedures including disaster recovery, server integrity, server audits and version control
- Install, configure, performance tune Linux and Solaris 10 operating system
- Perform network configuration for servers
- Plans and implements server virtualization including LDOMS/Zones
- Participate in 24x7 on-call support activities
- Actively participate in planning and implementation of Disaster Recovery
- Ensures data/media recoverability by implementing a schedule of system backups and database archive operations
- Evaluates, implements and administers storage administration impacting technologies such as RAID, SAN, NAS and backup
- Installs, administers and optimizes relational database (Oracle and MySQL)
- Evaluates, implements and administers high availability database configuration including RAC, clusters
Experience
- BS/MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or technologically relevant field
- Extensive knowledge of Sun Sparc and Intel server architecture, Solaris 10 and Linux OS
- 7+ years of system administration experience
- Extensive exposure to Sun hardware platforms including ATCA
- Hands-on experience with managing networks, routers, firewalls, switches, V-LAN
- Experience with backup/restore software, cluster systems management
- Experience with TCP/IP and networking protocols, DNS, VPN, SNMP and related technologies
- SAN/NAS storage experience with Netapp, EMC, Sun StorageTek, or similar
- Strong experience with system management tools, logical file systems, and client/server environments
- Extensive knowledge of Oracle Enterprise database administration
- Excellent script writing skills
- Strong troubleshooting skills
- Demonstrated initiative, customer orientation and team work competencies
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must have experience working in a high-availability, 24x7 operational environments
- Must be able to work unsupervised, be a self started, well organized and be able to multi-task
- Willing to travel to customer site on need basis (about 15-20% of time)
- Certifications: Solaris, Oracle database,
- CISCO, EMC, Netapp, and Brocade is a plus
- SUN or CISCO certification is required
